As its major change for 2000, the best-selling full-size van gains standard antilock brakes for all its models. The standard antilock system covers all four wheels and replaces a rear antilock feature that was standard on cargo models in 1999.

Except for the addition of a six-CD changer option and a newly standard tilt steering column, Ford's full-size E-Series Vans and passenger-carrying Wagons have changed little for 2002. Speed control is now available as a stand-alone option in commercial Vans and XL Wagons. A-pillar grab handles are now installed on all Wagons, and XLT Wagons gain dual illuminated sun visors.

Ford's full-size E-Series cargo-hauling Van and passenger-carrying Wagon received several revisions for the 2003 model year. The changes include a new grille with an integral Ford emblem. A driver's grab handle is now standard, and the Wagon models gain LATCH child-safety seat tethers and anchors. New optional power mirrors on the midseries models come with puddle lamps.

Ford already has the best-selling and largest sport utility vehicles, the Explorer and the Excursion, and for 2001 it adds another SUV, the Escape, to its lineup. The Escape is Ford's first car-based SUV, derived from the Mazda 626 platform. Ford owns a controlling interest in Mazda, and the Japanese brand gets its own version of this vehicle, the Tribute.
